Cantina Togliana was founded by Achille Milanesio, born in Ivrea in 1965, into a family of vine-nursery growers. For generations, the Milanesios have maintained small terraces (around 1 hectare) in Carema, carefully cultivating Nebbiolo vines selected from the oldest and most balanced vineyards in the area. Achille has continued the family tradition while introducing a modern, quality-focused approach to mountain Nebbiolo.

The winery is located in an extreme alpine environment, Carema is the only Italian gateway to the Val d’Aosta within the Canavese wine region. The vineyards climb steep, rocky slopes above the Dora Baltea river, between 400 and 1,000 meters in altitude, planted on terraces built by the Romans. The vines grow on traditional pergolas (“topie”), supported by stone pillars, in gneiss soils with fluvio-glacial deposits, which give the Nebbiolo local clone Picotendro (Picoutèner) its unique aromatic richness and complexity.

All work at Cantina Togliana is done by hand, from winter pruning to harvest, producing only around 2,000 bottles per year. The vinification follows the highest traditional standards: direct pressing, long skin contact, spontaneous fermentation, and aging in large used barrels.

The Carema Riserva comes from the highest terraces, expressing the full character of the mountain Nebbiolo, while L’Arsin is a selection from all the estate vineyards, capturing the essence of the property in every bottle. The result is bold, terroir-driven Nebbiolo, deeply rooted in Carema’s history and landscape.
