With approximation, we can say that Italy is divided between small producers and big rs. There are very few old-style, cultish “negociants”. The owner of Nec-Otium, Christian Patat, is probably the person who can be defined as a “cult negociant winemaker”. He doesn’t buy the grapes, except in very few cases, rather he spots and rents vineyards in the best areas of Friuli and turns them into jewels. from bright and straightforward pinot grigio to deep Friulano/ Sauvignon Blanc blends, from a spicy and juicy Cabernet Franc to a Friulano/ Ribolla Gialla blend from a stunning steep 90-year-old vines cru in Rosazzo.
